The Concession Agreement for the implementation of the Kotor-Lovćen cable car project was concluded on December 15, 2021, between the Government of Montenegro and the consortium “Novi Volvox” d.o.o. and “Leitner” AG/SpA from Italy. The cable car opened for commercial operation on August 14, 2023, constructed in just over a year since the cornerstone was laid in July 2022.
The main goal of the project is to enhance tourism development in the southwestern part of Montenegro and attract tourists from coastal areas who currently do not visit Lovćen National Park. The project has already proven to have significant positive economic effects due to the high economic multipliers associated with the project, primarily through additional growth in tourism and economic activity. Additionally, new commercial activities have developed, and employment opportunities for the local population have increased.
The cable car route starts from Dub, located in the Kotor municipality, and leads to the Kuk site on Mount Lovćen, at an altitude of 1,348 meters. The projected capacity is 48 gondolas, capable of transporting 1,200 passengers per hour, with a travel time from Dub station to Kuk station of just under 11 minutes.
The complete construction, procurement, and installation of the new “Kotor-Lovćen” cable car equipment on the Dub-Kuk section is defined by the Special Purpose Spatial Plan for “Lovćen National Park” and implemented in accordance with the provisions of the Concession Agreement.
